WHAT DOES “ORGANIC” MEAN AND WHY WE CARE

Nowadays, the word “organic” is used widely and, unfortunately, often in a wrong context. We decided to clarify a few myths and misconceptions about what the term “organic” means and why we care about creating and using products that are based on the organic principles. Enjoy this short article and, as always, feel free to ask any questions in the comments below!

What is “organic”?

If you search the word “organic” you will be bombarded with complicated terminology and technicalities. Below, we picked two definitions that we find least intimidating.

According to Organic Trade Association,

“organic agriculture, which is governed by strict government standards, requires that products bearing the organic label are produced without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic nitrogen fertilizers, antibiotics, synthetic hormones, genetic engineering or other excluded practices, sewage sludge, or irradiation.”

According to USDA,

“organic operations must maintain or enhance soil and water quality, while also conserving wetlands, woodlands, and wildlife. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used.”

Organic gardening

In organic gardening, you understand that your plants are a part of a larger natural ecosystem. Everything you do in your garden affects our world’s water system, animals, atmosphere and people. A will to become an organic gardener means that you strive to be in balance with nature by minimizing its exploitation and replenishing all the resources you use for your garden.

Organic treatment of the soil

Organic practices help keep our water supply clean of run-off from toxic and persistent chemicals. Moreover, by prohibiting the use of petroleum-based fertilizers and absorbing carbon dioxide from the air, organic practices help to reduce our carbon footprint and combat climate change.

At MARPHYL Marine Phytoplankton, we are happy to be a part of that process. Our Soil Enhancer is listed by OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) on OMRI Products List©. OMRI Listed products use only ingredients and formulations allowed under organic certification. Which means that if you are planning on starting an organic garden, our Soil Enhancer will be a perfect choice to nourish the soil and to help your plants flourish.

Do you want to implement organic practices in your garden or farm?

Try our MARPHYL ® Soil Enhancer made of 100% wild phytoplankton.

Plants rely on potassium to facilitate the circulation of nutrients and on nitrogen as the essential element in photosynthesis, while the roots need phosphorus to thrive. MARPHYL® Soil Enhancer is high in potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus, and also contains trace amounts of other nutrients, such as calcium and magnesium for optimum plant health and growth.
