WHAT DOES “ORGANIC” MEAN AND WHY WE CARE
Nowadays, the word “organic” is used widely and, unfortunately, often in a wrong context. We decided to clarify a few myths and misconceptions about what the term “organic” means and why we care about creating and using products that are based on the organic principles. What is “organic”?
If you search the word “organic” you will be bombarded with complicated terminology and technicalities. Below, we picked two definitions that we find least intimidating.
According to Organic Trade Association,
“organic agriculture, which is governed by strict government standards, requires that products bearing the organic label are produced without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic nitrogen fertilizers, antibiotics, synthetic hormones, genetic engineering or other excluded practices, sewage sludge, or irradiation.”
According to USDA,
“organic operations must maintain or enhance soil and water quality, while also conserving wetlands, woodlands, and wildlife. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used.”
