We are delighted to make an exciting announcement today. MARPHYL Marine Phytoplankton has achieved B Corporation certification!
This certification recognizes our commitment to meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. It is a testament to our dedication to operating as a force for good, not just for profit.
MARPHYL’s B Corp certification confirms that the company meets rigorous standards of social and environmental responsibility, ethical business practices, and sustainable operations. It reflects our commitment to creating positive impact through our products, operations, and community engagement.
We prioritize sustainability and ethical sourcing in every aspect of our business, from harvesting our ingredients to packaging our products.
During the harvesting and growing stage – in big quantities – of this amazing form of life, the process removes tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, which is shown as a massive production of oxygen. A tank of one million litres of ocean water can produce the equivalent oxygen of one forest hectare. The process releases the oxygen equivalent to a 7-hectare forest. When the water first comes in, one millimetre of water contains approximately 800 cells of marine phytoplankton, which will start multiplying as a result of the natural sunlight and the natural surrounding environment. At the harvesting stage, one millimetre of water has approximately 128,000,000 cells of marine phytoplankton. The remaining water is released back into the ocean with more phytoplankton that was originally taken in order to have an even more positive impact on the local marine ecosystem. The production plays an important role in the marine environment.
The above process does not affect in any way the natural balance of the surrounding marine ecosystem nor any living creature.
B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. In order to achieve certification, a company must:
– Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet baseline requirement standards.
– Make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.
– Exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.
We donate 1% of all our sales to Mission Blue
At MARPHYL®, we feel it is our social commitment to give back to what makes us possible to exist. We have decided to donate 1% of all our sales to Mission Blue, an initiative of the Sylvia Earle Alliance (S.E.A.), that with public support protects Hope Spots – special places that are vital to the health of the ocean, the blue heart of our planet. With two hope spots under consideration where MARPHYL® Marine Phytoplankton is taken form, it was the perfect organisation to contribute to.
