KEEP HOUSEPLANTS HAPPY IN LOW LIGHT DURING WINTER
Many of us struggle with houseplants during winter. Our plant babies slow down or stop growing. They start dropping leaves. They look sadder. Vlad aka Mr. Houseplant has a few tips for you to keep your plants happy until spring arrives.
Reduce watering
Houseplants need less water during winter. Since there is less light (the days are shorter and often cloudy), your plants will photosynthesize less, and the roots will be pulling less water from the soil. Reduce the frequency of watering and the amount of water used. If you do this, you will reduce chances of root rot.
Move closer to windows
Since there will be less light, move your plants to be closer to windows. On a dark, cloudy day, plants several feet away from windows get almost no light. Put them in front of the brightest window – south or west-facing in the Northern hemisphere, north or west-facing in the Southern hemisphere.
I suggest wiping off the leaves weekly. This will remove the dust and dirt blocking the light and allow the leaves to absorb the maximum amount of light.
Fertilize with care
It is normal for some houseplants to slow down or even completely stop growing during winter. If that’s the case, stop fertilizing. But, if your plants continue to grow during winter, feel free to fertilize. Buy grow lights
Lack of light is the no. 1 reason houseplants struggle during winter. Besides putting your plants closer to windows, consider getting a grow light. A grow light can completely replace natural light for plant growth. Some of the things to think about when choosing a grow light are:

-Selecting a light that is strong enough to keep your plant alive

-Maintaining a proper distance from the plant

-Having the light on for enough hours per day
